Robyn Ludtke, talent and education manager for both the Waukesha County Business Alliance and the Waukesha County Center for Growth, recently participated in the second of three classes facilitated by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Talent Pipeline Management Academy in Washington D.C.
The Talent Pipeline Management Plan (TPM) is an employer-led approach that chambers of commerce and economic development organizations can use to encourage the business community to work together by industry to address workforce needs. These employer “collaboratives” will address each industry’s most critical workforce needs using a talent supply chain of six strategies. Over the most recent two-day training the fourth strategy was announced: Talent Flow Analysis.
The Talent Flow Analysis strategy encourages employer industry collaboratives to investigate where current skilled talent is coming from and agree on the necessary credentialing to make them qualified for the job. Once the employer collaborative identifies the necessary skills, they can understand if training partners have the capacity to meet the demands. Often, an advantage to conducting a proper talent flow analysis is finding other education and/or training providers that are skilling up a talent pool and attract that pool to your region.
The Alliance has been executing this model for several years. An example would be the Manufacturing Alliance, which is a group of manufactures that share best practices, works with local educational institutions, invests in training facilities and agrees on a common skill set for future employees. The Alliance is working to replicate this for other industries.
